Tasks:

We are looking for a motivated researcher to join the System Architectures Department to mainly work on modelling and optimizing brain-inspired architectures for edge AI applications. The development of energy efficient and highly reliable brain-inspired computing architectures requires a holistic strategy assuming all abstraction levels from device, through circuits to architectures. In addition, an application-oriented perspective should be adopted in order to properly model and optimize the use of such architectures assuming different trade-offs between constraints such as power consumption, performance, reliability, etc. When assuming the idea of exploring solutions based on hybrid
architectures based on technology heterogeneity, this complexity increases significantly. It is anticipated that the candidate will mainly support projects’ activities. Your detailed tasks will include:

  • Model and optimization of brain-inspired architectures for edge AI applications assuming technology
    heterogeneity
  • Design and optimization of hardware-aware spiking neural network architectures
  • Development of strategies for properly benchmarking different conventional and non-conventional
    architectures for edge AI applications
  • Support the activities in the context of the Neuromorphic Hardware Group (PhD students guidance, project proposals’ preparation, scientific papers’ preparation, etc.)

Requirements:

You hold a PhD's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. You have good knowledge and experience in modelling and optimizing brain-inspired computing architecture for edge AI applications assuming technology characteristics as well as trade-offs between requirements and constraints. Additionally, knowledge and passion for conventional and non-conventional AI architectures and heterogeneous integration assuming CMOS and novel devices is favorable.
You will also be a strong team player. We are looking for a team member who can structure their own work and bring a well-organized and systematic approach to working with creative minds. You will be an ideal fit for this position if you have experimental, analytical, and problem-solving skills, very strong communication skills, and the ability to quickly learn how to use the latest technical equipment, including various software. You must be fluent in English.
German language skills are welcome. Further development of German language skills is expected and strongly encouraged, e.g. through in-house language courses and intensive courses.
