Research in a project with the goal of automatically modernising existing binary programs (fix security vulnerabilities, port to new processor architectures, systematically test that the new program can replace all of the functionality of the original one). This is a “computer systems” project at the intersection of compiler construction, software engineering, and computer security. Besides theoretical work, an explicit goal of the project is to implement a prototype system and to evaluate it. The opportunity to pursue a doctorate is available.
