The Leib­niz Insti­tute for Solid State and Mater­i­als Research Dresden e. V. (IFW Dresden) con­ducts mod­ern mater­i­als research on a sci­entific basis for the devel­op­ment of new and sus­tain­able mater­i­als and tech­nolo-gies. Sci­ent­ist / Post-doc­toral Pos­i­tion (m/f/d)

within the work­ing group Acous­tic Microsys­tems within the SAW­Lab Sax­ony of the IFW Dresden

Working field:

The pro­ject aims at devel­op­ing a mini­atur­ized aer­o­sol print­head tech­no­logy cap­able of out­per­form­ing the state of art in terms of flex­ib­il­ity, sim­pli­city, and cost effi­ciency. The offered pos­i­tion is part of a joint pro­ject between IFW Dresden and a Fraunhofer Insti­tute in Dresden. You will be part of an exper­i­enced research team and work in close col­lab­or­a­tion with external col­leagues. Tasks fore­seen for the offered pos­i­tion at IFW com­prise:

  • Basic sci­entific activ­it­ies (lit­er­at­ure sur­veys, pub­lic­a­tion, assist­ance in the pre­par­a­tion of pro­ject re-ports and in secur­ing IP, net­work­ing with research and indus­trial part­ners, super­vi­sion of stu­dents), and
  • Integ­ra­tion of acous­tic aer­o­sol and droplet gen­er­a­tion devices into a super­ior robotic sys­tem and setup auto­ma­tion,
  • Val­id­a­tion of micro­struc­ture print­ing using our novel sur­face acous­tic wave based print­head, using dif­fer­ent mater­i­als (inks) and print­ing tasks.


As a suc­cess­ful can­did­ate (m/f/d) you should have a Mas­ter’s degree or Dip­loma in mater­ial sci­ences, microsys­tems engin­eer­ing, mech­an­ical engin­eer­ing or elec­trical engin­eer­ing, and you should have acquired your PhD in a sim­ilar dis­cip­line. Due to your pre­vi­ous research exper­i­ence you have com­pre­hens­ive know­ledge in the fields of acous­tic high-fre­quency tech­no­logy as well as thin-film and micro­tech­no­logy. Exper­i­ence in Sur­face acous­tic wave driven acous­tofluidics and droplet / aer­o­sol gen­er­a­tion, as well as micro­print­ing or auto­ma­tion are advant­age­ous. A very good know­ledge of writ­ten and spoken Eng­lish, and a dis­tinct­ive abil­ity to work in an inter­na­tional, inter­dis­cip­lin­ary team com­plete your pro­file.

What we offer:

The salary is accord­ing to the Ger­man tar­iff TV-L (EG 13, 100%, full­time is pre­ferred, part-time is pos­sible).
