Microfluidics for microrobots fabrication and testing

Working field:

The aim of the project is to design, fabricate, test, model, and optimize a microfluidic device for microrobots, which will be applied to endovascular therapy. The robots will be characterized and validated in microfluidic channels. This project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant VIBEBOT, for the initial period of 1 year.

Requirements:

Specific tasks for the Master student include:

  • Design and 3D print of microfluidic channels with 2-photon lithography
  • Synthesis the micro-robots with microfluidic technique
  • Micro-robot characterization and optimization via microscopic video analysis
  • Drug release under external trigger
  • Validate the efficacy of the therapy in in vitro microfluidic models
A master student in Engineering, Chemistry or relevant subjects is required. An interest or experience in the fields of microfluidics, microdevices, and chemistry are preferred. The successful candidate should be self-motivated and possess excellent English skills; also be open to discuss new ideas in an interdisciplinary team and be flexible to apply various experimental methods. The project can be further extended to a student research project or a master thesis.
