Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty III - Institute of Energy Systems / Digital Transformation in Energy Systems

Technische Universität Berlin offers an open position:

2 Positions Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

Working field:

In this German-government-financed project you will model the system role of large-scale thermal energy storage in district heating. Such storage units allow heat to be stored for weeks or even months, and thus provide heat at low cost even during cold dark wind lulls. In a highly detailed model of the German energy system you will investigate the technical and economic potential for large-scale thermal energy storage (such as water basin storage and aquifer storage) in combination with renewable heat (such as large heat pumps and hydrogen CHPs) in German district heating systems. For this purpose you will update the open-source energy system model PyPSA-Eur with technologies, data and functionality. The full-system approach allows a realistic representation of possible transformation paths, risks and opportunities. Policy advice will be developed in close cooperation with partners from academia and industry. The working language of the project is German.

We offer you a young, international, and inter-disciplinary working environment at a leading research institute in the heart of Berlin. You will have the chance to make a high impact on the research and debate surrounding the energy transition.

It is possible to pursue a PhD thesis in this position.
