ifo Institut – Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung an der Universität München e. V. - Dresden Branch

The Dresden branch, founded by the ifo Institute in 1993, conducts empirical economic research that is geared to the special concerns of the new federal states and, in particular, the Free State of Saxony and is intended to provide policymakers with indications for targeted action. For example, it examines how structural change can be supported in a targeted and socially acceptable manner, which factors influence economic development specifically in the Free State of Saxony, and how current and future fiscal policy challenges can be responded to. The effects of demographic change are also considered as a cross-cutting topic. Many of the research findings can also be applied to other structurally weak regions in Germany.

To strengthen our team in Dresden, we are looking for two PhD students to work in the research area "Business Cycle and Growth" or “Regional Economics” as well as for a PhD in Economics at the Faculty of Economics at the TU Dresden.

The Dresden branch, founded by the ifo Institute in 1993, conducts empirical economic research. Your research is oriented towards the special concerns of the new federal states and in particular the Free State of Saxony and advises policy makers on the basis of evidence-based economic research. Many of the research findings can also be applied to other structurally weak regions. The branch's researchers examine, for example, how policymakers can make structural change socially acceptable, what factors influence economic development and how to respond to current and future fiscal challenges. The effects of demographic change are also an important cross-cutting topic at ifo Dresden. In addition, the branch produces regular economic forecasts for eastern Germany and Saxony.

The ifo Institute is one of the leading economic research institutes in Europe. It works on economically and politico-economic issues of international relevance at the highest scientific level and with an international impact and develops research-based recommendations for action for politics, business and society. Through its five fields of activity - research, promotion of young researchers, political consulting, participation in public debates and information/services - it contributes to maintaining and increasing sustainable economic prosperity and social participation under constantly changing conditions.
