The Dresden branch, founded by the ifo Institute in 1993, conducts empirical economic research that is geared to the special concerns of the new federal states and, in particular, the Free State of Saxony and is intended to provide policymakers with indications for targeted action. For example, it examines how structural change can be supported in a targeted and socially acceptable manner, which factors influence economic development specifically in the Free State of Saxony, and how current and future fiscal policy challenges can be responded to. The effects of demographic change are also considered as a cross-cutting topic. Many of the research findings can also be applied to other structurally weak regions in Germany.
To strengthen our team in Dresden, we are looking for two PhD students to work in the research area "Business Cycle and Growth" or “Regional Economics” as well as for a PhD in Economics at the Faculty of Economics at the TU Dresden.
