Traineeship Test board design and ASIC characterization
The IC Design groups develop innovative design automation tools and designs application-specific mixed-signal ICs from system concept down to silicon verification. Target applications include automotive, industrial, and also bio-medical electronics using technology nodes from 350 nm down to 22 nm. A special focus is on the development of analog/mixed-signal building blocks such as analog frontends or data converters in Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) technologies for ultra-low-power sensor applications.

The design of high integrated mixed signal ICs becomes more and more complex with decreasing gate length technologies. In the analogue domain layout dependent effects between single devices have a growing impact in the behavior of the real fabricated IC. Simulations during the design phase can’t illustrate this behavior completely, the gap between simulation and real silicon is growing. Improved devices models, simulation procedures and design techniques are the only way to close the gap, but need high-precision ASIC characterization. Understanding these technologies features by proofing simulation results with silicon measurements is the key competence facing this challenge. The following task will be covered:
