Working field:

The DAMS Lab research group is looking for a research associate (d/m/w) to join the team and conduct research in the EU-funded DAPHNE project on an open and extensible system infrastructure for integrated data analysis pipelines, which combine elements from data management, machine learning, and high-performance computing. In that context, the main research focus will be on programming language abstractions as well as compilation and runtime techniques. Topics of interest include:
  • Domain-specific language design and bindings with existing programming languages
  • Systems for machine learning and linear algebra
  • Relational query optimization and execution
  • Efficient and scalable parallel data processing in local and distributed environments
  • Compiler construction and traditional programming language optimization


  • Successfully completed academic university degree (master's degree, diploma or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related field of study. We are also open to domain-specific backgrounds if there is a willingness to close any gaps in the necessary CS background.
  • Background in the areas of data management, applied machine learning, distributed systems, and software engineering
  • Programming experience in C++ and Python (mandatory)
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills, German is an advantage but not a requirement (the language in our group is English)
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team, independent working style, high motivation
  • Basic experience in research methods and scientific writing
  • Experience in teaching and didactic competence is an advantage
