The chair of "Information Systems Engineering (ISE)" under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Tai teaches and conducts research in the area of quality-driven, continuous engineering of future-oriented distributed software systems, with a focus on cloud-native architecture and engineering, blockchain solutions and innovations, and privacy engineering.

Working field:

In the research project "TEADAL" (Trustworthy, Energy-Aware Federated Data Lakes Along the Computing Continuum) within the Horizon Europe funding program, we at the ISE chair together with 17 other European industry and research partners are researching the energy-efficient and trustworthy operation of highly distributed Cloud/Fog/Edge Data Lakes for novel data exchange in fields such as medicine, finance, industry, telecommunications and agriculture. In particular, our goal is to enable trustworthy federation of data transformation between all stakeholders and continuous privacy assurance during all transformations.

We are looking for two research assistants (d/m/w) for
  • passionate research in and development of novel data management and data streaming systems
  • innovative research in the area of blockchain-based applications and data lake federation and/or
  • continuing research and development in privacy-preserving technologies
  • interest in scientific dissemination of results at national and international conferences and workshops

The opportunity to do a doctorate is given and explicitly encouraged.

The project-related knowledge transfer and the subject-specific exchange with renowned partners in industry and science, also within the framework of ongoing national and European lighthouse projects in the field (e.g., in the project family "GAIA-X 4 Future Mobility"), is made possible and desired.


  • Successful completion of a scientific university degree (master's degree, diploma or equivalent) in information technology, business information technology, industrial engineering, or a related field of study.
  • Knowledge of data management and data integration
  • Knowledge in one of the following fields is expected: Blockchain technologies and applications and/or privacy-preserving technologies and applications
  • Knowledge in one of the following fields is desired: secure mutli-party computation and/or observability of distributed application is advantageous
  • Knowledge in the engineering of distributed streaming applications would be an asset
  • Knowledge of cloud, fog, edge computing is a plus
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team, independent working style, high motivation
  • Very good knowledge of German and English
