CBI drives ground-break­ing devel­op­ments at the inter­face of tech­no­logy and medi­cine, innov­at­ing ima­ging tech­no­lo­gies based on optical and acous­tic con­trast that can be applied in basic bio­logy research and imple­men­ted in the clinic to sup­port non-invas­ive dia­gnostics, treat­ment, and man­age­ment of dis­ease. Our port­fo­lio includes a broad range of tech­niques, includ­ing fluor­es­cence molecu­lar ima­ging and tomo­graphy, optical micro­scopy, optoacous­tic micro­scopy and tomo­graphy, that can gen­er­ate struc­tural and func­tional inform­a­tion about healthy and dis­eased tis­sue. Build­ing upon our extens­ive expert­ise in devel­op­ing meth­ods and sys­tems, we are now focus­ing on the clin­ical trans­la­tion of our tech­niques.
The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate will play a major part in this effort, work­ing closely with sci­ent­ists of all levels within a unique inter­dis­cip­lin­ary envir­on­ment. As the suc­cess­ful can­did­ate, you will:

• Design and develop optical and optoacous­tic ima­ging sys­tems in close col­lab­or­a­tion with CBI sci­ent­ists
• Fab­ric­ate mini­atur­ized ima­ging sensors and cath­et­ers
• Main­tain and oper­ate high-end mul­timodal micro­scopes
• Oper­ate, main­tain and modify a large spe­ci­men cryo­tome and the attached cam­era sys­tem in close col­lab­or­a­tion with CBI sci­ent­ists
• Sup­port our labor­at­ory staff and sci­ent­ists on tech­nical aspects of our research
• Assist with gen­eral labor­at­ory work, invent­ory, etc.

The suc­cess­ful applic­ant must have the fol­low­ing:

• Voca­tional train­ing, bach­elor or mas­ter degree in optical engin­eer­ing, elec­trical engin­eer­ing or a related dis­cip­line
• Excel­lent grades and ideally pre­vi­ous job exper­i­ence in a sim­ilar pos­i­tion
• Exper­i­ence in optics, sensors, lasers, optical fibers
• Pro­gram­ming skills in MAT­LAB / Lab­view are an advant­age
• High motiv­a­tion and pro­act­ive atti­tude
• Flex­ible, inde­pend­ent and solu­tion-ori­ented work­ing style
• Team player skills and enthu­si­asm to work in a multi-dis­cip­lin­ary, col­lab­or­at­ive envir­on­ment
• Excel­lent pro­fi­ciency in Eng­lish and Ger­man

The suc­cess­ful applic­ant will ini­tially have a 2-year con­tract, with the pos­sib­il­ity of exten­sion. Salary will com­men­sur­ate with train­ing, work exper­i­ence, and seni­or­ity (TV-L E 9-13 of Free State of Bav­aria).
